Here are a number of personal letters written by Charles Darwin. As far as we can tell here at The DNA Store, all letters are original and as described.

Letter written by Charles Darwin

 

July 24th (1853), to John Murray. In full, "My dear Sir, I venture to ask you to do me the favour to direct and post the enclosed letter to Mr. Galton, the author of the very interesting volume lately published by you. My dear Sir, Yours very faithfully, C. Darwin." Neatly laid down to card. The "enclosed letter" is not present, but it was addressed to Francis Galton, Darwin's cousin, best-remembered for founding the eugenics movement, and expressed great admiration for Galton's book. Galton was also a traveler who had explored parts of southwestern Africa from 1850 to 1852 and his 'Narrative of an Explorer in Tropical South Africa' was published in 1853 - Darwin had just finished reading this book when he sent this note. A nice assocation.
